A one liner on corporations
I really wish this didn't need to be said, but too many people these days on the political right can't get there head around this concept:
"Corporations are not good people,
They're bad governments,"
What I mean is, people that are libertarian think businesses have the interests of common people at heart, that the customer is their main priority. This is false. People are a product to them as well, they are only beholden to the shareholders. Corporations govern in the worst way possible, without consulting their employees, without consulting their customers. They govern at the whims of a C suite and a board of directors. That's where the decision making stops.
Quit letting stuffy rich people rule you and your country.

Union vs. Economy does not compute
With the UAW strike starting, the ongoing Hollywood strikes, the recent contract with UPS and union discussions across the board, I've read several articles claiming our current president has to make a decision between the economy and union support. And to be frank, this is just wrong. If the last 70 years have taught us anything, a strong middle class with good wages builds an economy, not tax breaks for the rich or low wages for labor workers. The major corporate entities pushing to keep unions down are what's a threat to the economy, and supporting unions is the only way we're going to fix our looming economic crisis. Support your local union, refuse to do business with companies who violate labor laws and treat their employees like cogs in a machine.

Wendell and Wild: Beautiful and Misunderstood
I just wanted to type up a short opinion of this film, spoiler free, to try and put the record straight. I've heard a bit of complaint about the movie being terrible, but I have to say that's wrong. Wendell and Wild was a beautiful stop-motion film, an visual treat, that had some issues. It wasn't a awful dumpster fire, but what it did do "wrong" was tell things right.
The movie has a black female lead, a trans-male best friend, who's mother supports his gender identity, and another teenager that is the child of an interracial couple. There is also a Native American social worker, an Indian student, and a couple of southeast Asian supporting cast members. The movie discusses jailing children, and the negative effects that can have, and it straight out condemns the private prison system. And it also discusses Hell in a way that doesn't paint everybody trapped down below as eternally evil. If you've ever suffered any sort of bigotry, misogyny, or racism, you are probably starting to see why this movie was called "bad". It had nothing to do with the quality of the movie, it was about the quality of the audience that got uptight about it.
I will admit, Wendell and Wild had some slow pacing, and some weird violence (slight spoiler, somebody gets drowned), but that is the type of tale it is. The lead character is still suffering grief and survivors guilt, the pace fits the depression in her soul. Honestly, if you can put away your privileged biases, it's a good movie. I'm just sad it got slandered so hard just because it tried to be real about life.

What's in a Snow Day
Why do we like snow days? And what is it about snow we find so pure? I'm not here to lecture, but honestly ask the question.
I've wondered for a long time what it is that makes snow snow appealing, but I've never come up with a satisfactory hypothesis. For most of humanity's existence, snow has meant death. But even in those dreary times, people found beauty and wonder in the flaky white stuff.
And what makes a snow day so appealing. I understand that for kids it is a way to get out of the boring drudge of school, but as adults, it kinda means your trapped, and again, in antiquity, snow day equaled no crops, no wagon travel, and most likely death.
Yet all over the world, even in countries that never see it, and in places where life is worst, snow is seen as a symbol of purity and peace. I wonder why?
If anyone can explain this, I much appreciate it, and to those who wonder with me, we'll find it some day, the snow day connection.
Till then, bye!

Little Ones
As I'm standing here waiting for my kids to get out of school, I'm marveling at the reality that kids give no thought to politics or the way grown ups say the world should work. They just live the way they want. Boys are boys, girls are girls, and what that is is a personal definition that no one else gets to dictate. It is perfectly restricted to their perception of the world. If their actions are politically incorrect, they don't care, they'll just rewrite those stupid rules. If they are nice, then it is because they are being genuinely nice, and if they're mean, they'll forget by tomorrow. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get back to some of that?
